We have been familiar with water-based paints which are more frequent used nowadays because its dominant environmental friendly benefit. Nevertheless, the bio-based coatings have been commercially presence in the market for a couple of years, already.<\/p>

Interestingly, the bio-based coatings are much more benefits. For example, increased water and chemical resistance, durable film hardness and impact resistance, reducing amounts of volatile organic compound (VOCs).<\/p>

Furthermore, soybean oil is under evaluation of a reactive diluent application. An example use is the replacement of paraffin wax in coating fruit and vegetable packaging boxes in food industries.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

More development to come. there are projects that cooperate between the dedicated soybean association and the coating manufacturers in the U.S., i.e.<\/p>

– Use soybean oil to produce low temperature powder coatings for substrates that are
temperature sensitive.
– Use a soy-based alkyd technology platform to create a low VOC wood coating.
– Use high oleic soybean oil to make high performance hydrophobic latex coatings.
– Potential use of high oleic soybean oil to create low VOC coalescing agents for
waterborne coatings.
– Under reseach use of high oleic soybean oil-based coating for packaging fresh produce.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
